This has pushed many experienced sound designers toward freelancing or out of the field entirely.

This shift is also changing the required skill set: training traditionally built around DAWs and recording gear now has to include basic programming logic too — conditionals, state machines, randomization parameters. For sound designers entering the field, that's both a threat and an opportunity: static asset production is shrinking, while demand grows for people who can build real-time sound systems.
